A hip bursitis is an inflammation of a bursa, a bursa is a small fluid filled sac and it can found in the knee, heel, elbow and hip.
A common hip bursitis is called a trochanteric bursitis this is due to the bursa which is located near the trochanter becomes irritated. Another bursa can be found on the inside near to the groin this can also become inflamed but both are treated in the same manner.
The symptoms for a hip bursitis is pain that usually radiate to the thigh the pain usually is exacerbated when the patient lie downs on the affect area. This injury is most common in patients who engage in sports that involve a lot of repetitive motions such as running, stair climbing, bicycling, or standing for long periods of time.
To treat a hip bursitis is simple the doctor will advise the patient to change actives for the time it take to heal, anti-inflammatory drugs can be useful to reduce the inflammation such as ibuprofen in some cases the doctor may give the patient a crutch to walk with to releases some weight off the hip. It is very rare that surgery is necessary.
To prevent this kind of injury it is advised that the patient buys well fitted shoes, avoid repetitive stress on the hips and to maintain hip muscle strength and flexibility.
